Spring Trust for Trails supported Washington Trails
Association in working on making the Hardy Ridge Trail (Beacon Rock
State Park) completely punched through and hike-able to within 20
feet of either entrance. The work was completed in 26 days, took a
total of around 2,400 volunteer hours, and utilized a variety of
volunteer groups.
April and May: Local volunteers came out on weekends
and completed about 217 feet of bench work, removed significant
roots and rocks, roughed in a new trail and built up the tail bed.

July and August: WTA welcomed Landmark Volunteers
(students ages 15-17 from around the country) who spent two weeks
finishing tread on the Hardy Ridge Trail, brushed a 1/2 mile to
connect the old trail to the new section, removed trees and stumps,
built a switchback, cut new tread and maintained an existing 1/4
mile section of trail.
Mid-August: WTA hosted a youth trip for volunteers
recruited locally. This group of volunteers completed over 500
feet of new tread, and brushed about 150 feet of a new trail
corridor. A group of Hewlett Packard college interns also
joined the Youth Group for a day.
September and October: WTA utilized the help of
weekend volunteers to finish up the work. These adults
returned to Hardy Ridge to continue re-routing the trail, remove
more root balls, and work on more tread work.
