Forest Service Trail Crew members and volunteers
from the Skagit Audubon Hiking Group (SAH) and Washington Trail's
Association (WTA) worked to rebuild the Canyon Creek Bridge.

The west abutment site was leveled and rock bed laid
to provide drainage for treated timber abutment. The east
abutment scour crib logs were determined to be rotten and needed
replacement. A small excavator was used to remove and excavate
trenches for 40 ft. logs and 10 ft. deadman. |
Logs were placed on rock beds to provide drainage.
Hand digging was required to level the trenches, prior to filling
with rock. The deadman were placed, scribed, cut and fitted. |
After a variety of z pulleys were placed to hold the
future foot log above the creek, it took 4 days to bring this log,
estimated to weigh between 18,000 to 20,000 lbs, down to Canyon
Creek. |
The footlog was winched next to the abutment, and
jacked up to the elevation needed for placement on the sill. |
